Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP are national health programs for selected population segments. They have their own pluses and minuses. "Medicare For All" is not affordable, and Medicare is almost bankrupt. As in Canada and England, National Health Insurance (NHI) is okay for basic care, but serious illnesses result in rationing. I have witnessed this many times while in practice in Florida, especially during the winter months. Even the hearing of one of Canada's provinces opted for heart surgery here in the States rather than waiting for it in Canada. Finally, private health insurance is similar to what has been said about democracy: "It is a terrible way to govern, and all the others are worse."
