I have been to Europe many times and agree the service is often better and the wait staff is paid more.. They do annoy you less, that is true. But we are dealing with two completely different cultures here. In America, hard work and good service is and should be rewarded. In Europe, it seems that being a waiter is more of a career and respected more than it is here in the states. The training in America is poor to none for a waiter or waitress. In Europe, they may come by to check on you when you are not eating or talking. Here no one apparently teaches the wait staff to not interrupt the customer and ask dumb things like “How is that tasting to you?”
