First, it is questionable that Tesla would be so successful without government subsidies. I test drove a Model S almost bought one until I read how they blow up on impact. Second, a replacement battery costs over $22K. Third, the “save the environment “ claim is dubious since the electricity used to charge it is ~60% from fossil fuels. But yes at that price point more people will buy one.
