Doing what feels "right" to you can hurt others. Other family members may not share your "feelings." Denying family members and other loved ones the important function of grieving together is selfish unless the deceased specifically stated they wanted no funeral or ceremony. A ceremony has been conducted ever since humans walked the earth. The trend to deny others this occasion is nothing more than a manifestation of "fear" of one's death and denial of its reality.
