As a retired MD, I can sympathize with your experience. Hosptials also spend millions of dollars on bricks but less on personel. I can tell you these deplorable condtions existed before the equity takeovers. They have gotten worse post covid, poor pay and the great resignation. One thing your story did not mention is the huge overhead all of these facilities face due to lawsuits. While some are legitmate, like missing your mother's blood clots, others are frivolous suits that are routinely settled at a huge cost. Privatization is not the only cause and nationalizing the health system is not the answer. One only needs to look at the UK where HCA has had success with private hospitals to realize that national funding of healthcare may be as bad or worse than the private sector.
