And it doesn’t involve getting them via email, either
I didn’t intend to pick on CVS, but since they are the worst abuser here, I will. The butt of hundreds, if not thousands, of online jokes and memes, the national pharmacy chain is notorious for dispensing yards of paper receipts. One observer laid out over five feet of a paper receipt in his truck bed after buying two roles of Lifesavers. Another Reddit user commented, “They grow up so fast. At one year old, my baby is almost one CVS receipt long.” You get the idea.
Many younger customers will say, “Why don’t you opt for an email receipt?’ My answer is, “Why would I want that clogging up my inbox more than my waste basket?” CVS is not alone. I frequent ACE hardware stores, and my snail mail is full of multiple coupons for $5 off (if you buy more than $30) or 2X rewards (if you act before next week). And many non-ACE hardware brands, like Big Green Egg smokers/grills and attachments or products, are excluded.
The solution is easy and has been exploited by CVS’s major competitor, Walgreens. Instead of offering you time-sensitive coupons for stuff you bought a few minutes before checking out, they give you points.
