2022 Was an Awful Year, and I Cannot Wait for it to End

Two operations, fractured ribs, identity theft, and then Covid, did not make for a great year, but I am searching for the silver linings.

Iam not normally a superstitious person. I don’t place a football player bobblehead doll under my TV, thinking my team will win. I don’t believe if I wash my car, it will rain. Nor do I believe that thinking my way out of infection makes me well. A great attitude is helpful, but it can’t fix everything. The events of 2022 were so negative and painful that I welcome 2023 with open arms and high hopes.

The year started with a bang as I underwent abdominal surgery in January to fix a stricture in my small intestine due to Crohn’s disease. The surgery went well, except due to a shot of blood thinner before the surgery (to prevent blood clots), I bled profusely out of my rectum, and it took two months and two infusions of iron to get my blood counts back to normal. However, on the bright side, I have had no more bowel obstructions since.

Then in late March, I fell, getting onto my boat breaking ribs and tearing the tendons in my shoulder. This fall was preventable. Eventually, the shoulder pain became so great I had surgery. As bad as the fall was, however, it finally convinced me that I was too old to own and operate a boat any longer, and I sold it.
